I had the most enjoyable language module here in Finland and i doubt i will enjoy to such level in Singapore.
I had the coolest language teacher ever and i enjoyed learning under her :)
As usual, she would invite exchange students like us to her house towards the end of the sch term as she feel we should at least visit a finnish house before we leave.
Her house was located 50 mins away from our campus but we had to switch bus in between. We realised that bus 143 and bus 143A does have a difference and we got kicked out 5 stops before her house as we board the wrong bus. it was 1.4km to her house from the stop that we got kicked out. We decided to walk in the cold weather as the next bus will only arrive in 20 mins and it was cold to stand at the bus stop to wait for the next bus.
But our professor is very concerned about us that she sent her husband to fetch us even though we insisted we can walk to her house. Actually the distance was quite far and luckily her husband managed to spot us and drove us their house.
Her house is really very beautiful. One that i would see it often in story books with chimney and woodsy house. She has her own sauna too!
Her house is very well decorated, artistic and interesting. Food was prepared the moment we arrived and the meal was sumptuous! i used to think that Finnish food is really tasteless until i had a meal prepared by her. She is just a marvellous cook! we had Salmon (frm Norway damn nice!), beef, quail egg with Karjalan Piirakka, Salad with apple, Reindeer po piah with cheese, marinated chickens, potato with dried tomato and long beans. Very good Finnish meal!
After dinner we gathered at her living room to look at her photo albums and also some documentaries filmed by her husband when he went diving and when they went Africa. She made us traditional Finnish drink, Glogi. is like red wine with 16% alcohol, she would heat it up and put some raisin and almonds in it. so nice to have it in the cold weather and beside a fire place some more. so comfy ^^
We chatted till the last bus came and depart. This prof is very energetic despite her age of 60? she has 3 grandchildren but is still very young at heart. She is now busy making gifts for her love ones and she hand made them such as knitting socks, sewing cloth as she doesn't believe in buying those material gifts. She has 60 christmas cards to write too! wow! and she is learning horse riding and travelling, loves reading and can paint good art piece! i dun even know if i have such energy like her when i turn 60. she is an inspiration to me.
She escorted us back to the bus stop to catch the last bus. Reached home about 12am, really enjoyed visiting her home :)
