It's a meet up session with Kim and the GB girls!
Really thank God for these 11 years of friendship.
Thank God that none of us have changed much. hahas. not sure if this is a good or bad thing though.
Today session just made me realise how important it is to be in a supportive Christian community. In actual fact, I realise i pretty much enjoy the conversation with them.. be it on a personal issue or national news, each of us would have differing views and somehow, the conversation would just naturally link up with Christian values, bible teachings. It would just make each of us think further and it is really a hearty sharing. each of us might have differing views but somehow we our conversation is rather peaceful with each of us respecting each other views/opinions. made me realise how much I miss having such conversation in the good old days.
Am not sure if God is trying to bring a message across me today. But it does kept me thinking about it. not sure why, but as i grow older, i realise i am afraid to have "commitment". but today, this group of girls just got me thinking again.
we have also learnt from Kim that from her years of long term missionary in Cambodia... those short time OCIP we made isn't helping much but creating damaging effect on the locals, make them rely more on volunteers to provide for them. This is when too much and inappropriate helping hurts. It does resonate with what i feel recently about OCIP as well having been quite a regular on such short term mission trip. in actual fact, the beneficials are truly those volunteers themselves. there need to be a change in this kind of help... some other kind of help is needed to make these locals more motivated to provision for themselves, rather than waiting for others to help them.
hahas... most hilarious part is when all 8 of us who met up today are all single... someone in the group pointed it out and had the whole group laughing loudly right away. even hilarious, Sheron jokingly ask Kim to pray for us about it. hahas! to be honest, i feel that in some way our personalities are about the same. we are not those touchy, or huggy type, more like kung-ho type... probably due to those long hours of drill training we had in our teenage years that have made us look tough?! LOL. besides that, except for one, the rest of us are the eldest in the family. could this have contribute to our personalities and character?! hahas! just some inside jokes among us for years.
seriously, i can't thank God enough for such a day. it always set me thinking about new perspectives and opinions in our convo.
